The Department of Emergency & Military Affairs (DEMA), led by The Adjutant General, provides emergency management and military capabilities to the citizens of Arizona and the nation. The Emergency Management Division consists of three sections—operations, preparedness, and financial administration. Each section works collaboratively across the agency and with external partners to manage emergency responses and reduce the impacts of disasters. Additionally, DEMA is the headquarters for the Arizona National Guard, the primary combat reserve of the United States military.

The Arizona Army and Air National Guard provide military forces and equipment to accomplish community, state, and federal missions.

Job Summary

The Camp Navajo Security Installation Chief provides senior level leadership and oversees the daily operations of armed security officers providing security services to Arizona Army National Guard facilities. Responsible for leading, managing, and site-specific training for all SO2’s (Shift Supervisors) and SOI’s (Security Officers) at their assigned installation and assists in the planning, coordination and organization of programs within the Security Forces Department.

Actively participates in promoting a continuous improvement workplace culture, through the use of teamwork, root cause problem solving, standard operating procedures, and review of performance metrics.

Job Duties
  • Oversees security guard services for the assigned facility. Responsible for leading, managing, and site-specific training for all SOII’s (Shift Supervisors) and SOI’s (Security Officers) at their assigned installation. Directs Shift Supervisors and subordinate personnel towards the accomplishment of their duties, monitors corrective actions, advises the Senior Security Chief of actions taken or required.
  • Oversee the interactions with tenant units to support requested security requirements for additional activities within the scope of applicable Cooperative Agreements (CA) and Memorandum of Agreements (MOA). Direct security guard services in support of the Ordinance Operations Department (OOD). Provide information to civic/public and/or government identified visitors and direct traffic management through designated traffic plans and parking areas consistent with force protection measures as prescribed by regulation and/or installation policies.
  • Coordinates with the Security Training Officer to ensure all employees successfully complete the Initial CORE Security Training Program. Oversee the Field Training Program (FTP) at their assigned location. Spot checks employees to ensure the performance of duties is in compliance with training and policy.
  • Reviews and provides recommendations for security plans, procedures and processes ensuring inclusion of tenant unit security requirements. Assists in the planning, coordination and organization of programs within the Security Forces Department with the Senior Security Chief.
  • Interacts with foreign military and civilian nationals. Oversees technical training to be able to respond to calls for Munitions of Concern and Unexploded Ordnance.
  • Supports Morale, Welfare, and Recreation program ves as range safety officer and conducts training events. Manages electronic security systems, including electronic guard tour, access control and Key Watcher.
  • Performs duties of Security Officer I and SOII when needed including controlling entry and egress of personnel and vehicles via entry control point, of designated restricted area. Responds to IDS failures, shipping/receiving of assets. Coordinates security checks and gate access for rail delivery. Reviews and maintains logs of access into the restricted area IAW Army regulations.
  • Completes and reviews human resource forms for submission to HR, including recruitment requests, personnel action, and progressive discipline.
