Peoria’s Public Works department has an excellent opportunity for an experienced Traffic Signal and Streetlights Operations Maintenance Coordinator. This position maintains, monitors, and provides expert-level service for traffic signal and streetlight systems, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), radar feedback and speed reduction systems, variable message signs, and related communication equipment. Responsibilities include traffic signal timing, coordination, studies, and computerized signal programming. The role coordinates and installs ITS equipment with guidance from Traffic Engineering and the Public Works Traffic Signal Operations team.
Work is primarily field based with some office duties. This position also serves as an after-hours responder on a rotational basis for 24-hour ITS support. Additional duties may be assigned.

The ideal candidate for this position will have:
- Experience maintaining and supporting ITS infrastructure, including traffic signals, cameras, and communication systems.
- Ability to lead and coordinate maintenance and emergency response for streetlights, traffic signals, and ITS equipment.
- Experience coordinating ITS equipment installation with different teams
- Strong troubleshooting skills for fiber, wireless, networking, and traffic signal equipment.
- Knowledge of traffic signal operations, timing, and system improvements, including new technology integration.
- Ability to coordinate responses to citizen inquiries and emergency situations related to ITS systems.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- Two-year college program or equivalent combination of experience and training providing comparable knowledge and skills, plus two years of relevant traffic signal/ITS maintenance and operations experience.
Experience:
- 4 years of experience in traffic signal operations, telecommunications, fiber optics, CCTV systems, ITS, and street lighting at an expert or journey-level.
Physical Demands:
- Work requires heavy physical exertion and effort.
Licenses and
Certifications:
Required upon hire:
- Valid Arizona Class “D” Driver’s License upon hire
- IMSA Traffic Signal Level II (or equivalent)
- IMSA Roadway Lighting Level I (or equivalent)
Required within one (1) year of hire (dependent on available training and testing):
- IMSA Fiber Optic for Traffic Signal Level I (or equivalent)
- IMSA Roadway Lighting Level II (or equivalent)
- IMSA Traffic Signal Inspector Level I (or equivalent)
Desired
Certifications:
- IMSA Transportation Center System Specialist (or equivalent)
