Assistant / Circulation Clerk (Part-Time)
Pay: Starting at $15/hour
Position OverviewWe are seeking a friendly, motivated, and service-oriented Assistant / Circulation Clerk to join our team on a part-time basis
. This position offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in both public and technical library services. It is ideal for individuals interested in learning library operations, developing professional skills, and potentially advancing within the library field.
- Staff the circulation desk, including opening procedures and daily operations
- Check materials in and out using the library system
- Process books for entry into the library system
- Greet patrons and provide assistance with locating materials and services
- Answer phones and respond to general inquiries
- Register new patrons and maintain records
- Collect and record fines and fees
- Resolve patron concerns and refer issues as needed
- Shelf and organize library materials
- Assist patrons with public computers and basic technology needs
- Support library programs and help develop and lead new programs
- Create and maintain library displays
- Assist with special projects as assigned
- Participate in staff meetings and contribute ideas for improving services
Physical Requirements
Combination of sitting and active work, including lifting, bending, and shelving materials
Stair use will be required every day
Regular use of computers and standard office/library equipment
Minimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED
Experience working with the public
Basic computer skills
Ability to work collaboratively with staff and assist a diverse group of patrons
Reliable, organized, and self‑motivated
Preferred QualificationsPrevious library experience
Interest in pursuing a career in libraries or public service
