P&Z - PART TIME PLUMBING/BUILDING INSPECTOR
Performs inspection work in securing and maintaining substantial compliance with codes and standards governing newly installed residential and commercial plumbing systems, and general building inspections. Plumbing inspector examines plumbing systems, water supply and distribution systems, plumbing fixtures and traps, and drain, waste, and vent lines. Reviews plans and subsequent inspection of buildings in the course of construction, alterations or repair to determine if plans, workmanship and materials conform with all existing code requirements.
Prepares written reports and maintains records of work performed.
- Inspect plumbing systems, water supply and distribution systems, plumbing fixtures and traps, and drain, waste, and vent lines to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Review construction plans and perform inspections of buildings under construction, alterations, or repair to verify conformity with code requirements.
- Prepare written reports and maintain records of work performed.
- Associate's degree or equivalent from an accredited two-year college or technical school or completion of a related apprenticeship program; and four to six years of progressively responsible related construction experience; OR any equivalent combination of education, training and related construction experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of principles, practices, methods, and techniques of building construction and building code enforcement, municipal building codes and related issues.
- Familiarity with all applicable state, federal and local ordinances, laws, rules and regulations.
- May be required to hold and maintain a valid Illinois Department of Public Health Plumber’s License, at discretion of Director of Planning & Zoning.
- Must have a valid Illinois driver's license.
- Ability to organize workload, set priorities, meet critical deadlines and work under minimum supervision.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to establish and maintain working relationships with a variety of individuals.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as building construction plans, blueprints, safety rules, and procedure manuals.
- Familiarity with computer applications and hardware related to performance of the essential functions of the job.
Salary commensurate with education and experience.
