Construction Manager

Our client is a multidisciplinary engineering firm focusing on the design, integration, and construction management of capital asset projects. We provide full-service project management from ideation, budgeting, and capital approval through construction and startup. We pride ourselves not just on completing quality projects, but on developing partnerships with our clients and vendors.

Our client is seeking a Construction Manager (CM). While this position is based in our Downers Grove, IL office, projects will take the CM throughout the United States. Travel is required and can be expected to be at least 50%.

Responsibilities:

• Travel to jobsites to ensure quality projects are installed per the scope of work and drawings provided.
• Maintain a clear understanding of the scope of work; watch, observe, and report issues to the Project Manager — the CM is there to manage the construction, not simply watch it.
• Own the quality of the installation, ensuring client build specifications and our client's specifications and standards are met, and delivering a clean, tidy, professional-looking project.
• Read and understand provided drawings to ensure the installation meets the design concept.
• Understand jobsite safety and correct contractors as needed in a firm but respectful manner.
• Read and understand all plant-related requirements to guide contractors to a successful installation.
• Remain on site for the duration of the project — present whenever a contractor is on the jobsite, first in the morning and last after daily activities are complete, which may mean 12+ hour days.
• Host a pre-shift meeting for all crews onsite.
• Build a strong working relationship with plant personnel; ensure all plant working permits are completed, organized, and available for each shift, and that all permit requirements are followed.
• Produce clear, clean daily reports detailing job progress at a quality suitable for distribution to corporate clients.
• Clearly communicate any issues that could hinder the project or result in poor-quality installation.
• Understand the contractor's job proposal; ensure all proposed work is completed and hours are tracked, and assess whether change orders are reasonable, communicating that to the Project Manager.
• Set a positive tone for the contractors and resolve issues collaboratively and respectfully, ahead of time where possible.
• Keep expenses to a minimum, ensuring top-quality installation while helping maintain the budget.
