Illinois Central College is seeking adjunct faculty to teach preclinic, clinic, lab and theory courses within the Dental Hygiene Program during the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Teaching may occur morning, afternoon, and evening. Adjuncts may continue to teach future semesters as courses remain available. The adjunct faculty are primarily responsible for teaching assigned courses while maintaining programmatic and accreditation standards.
Teaching must adhere to syllabi, support student success, and provide office hours. Contact hours may be up to 12 per semester for fall and spring; if teaching also in summer, contact hours must remain at or below 29 for the academic year.
- Maintain highest possible standards of the Dental Hygiene Program.
- Facilitate teaching and learning opportunities, ensuring all necessary materials and tools are available and safety standards are met.
- Adhere to course syllabi and communicate expectations to ensure student success.
- Maintain office hours and availability for students.
- Collaborate with program faculty and agency staff to continuously improve the student learning experience.
- Document, review, analyze, and report student clinical assessment results for the program assessment plan.
- Seek professional development to remain current within dental education, workforce trends, and emerging technology.
- Maintain skills through professional development, continuing education, and scholarly activities appropriate to higher education and professional discipline.
- Actively serve on college, department, and program committees as appropriate.
- Support college-wide initiatives and participate in program and organizational meetings.
- Perform assigned responsibilities during day, evening, or weekend on any campus or clinical facility.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Graduate of an accredited Dental Hygiene or Dental program (Commission on Dental Accreditation accredited).
- Bachelor’s Degree in education, training and development, management, or other directly related discipline to teach a theory course.
- Associate’s Degree in Dental Hygiene to teach in clinic and some laboratory sections.
- Current Illinois license as a dental hygienist or dentist.
- Current CPR/AED certification.
- Minimum of two (2) years full-time clinical experience as a registered dental hygienist or dentist.
- Proficient in clinical skills, digital radiography, electronic records systems, and willingness to develop new and emerging clinical skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, organizational, and prioritizing skills.
- Strong multi‑tasking, decision‑making, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships.
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in a related field.
- Certification in Local Anesthesia.
- Membership and participation in state and national professional organizations.
- Five or more years of clinical experience as a registered dental hygienist or dentist.
- Experience as an instructor in a dental hygiene program.
- Experience teaching at a community college.
- Experience serving the needs of a diverse student population.
