We are seeking an architectural/interior designer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of both residential and commercial construction design and be capable of leading junior designers while managing their own projects. This role will involve collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure the seamless execution of design projects, implementing and improving internal design processes, and overseeing the work of junior team members.
Responsibilities:- Visit job sites to assess space availability, design requirements, and project goals.
- Assist the Design Director in refining and implementing internal design processes.
- Lead client discovery meetings to understand their design preferences, budget, and project timelines.
- Develop functional design layouts that meet client needs and comply with building codes and regulations.
- Manage relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain quotes, ensure quality, and track changes throughout the project.
- Lead design projects through all phases, from preliminary design to final execution, coordinating with estimating teams, project managers, architects, and engineers.
- Oversee the creation and approval of project documentation, ensuring all plans, drawings, and renderings are kept up-to-date and accessible to the internal and external teams.
- Review and approve work created by junior designers, providing guidance and mentorship to help them grow professionally.
- Ensure design proposals are aligned with client budgets, expectations, and building regulations.
- Handle light project management duties, such as sourcing materials, managing pricing changes, and tracking orders.
- Collaborate with municipal authorities to secure building permits, address zoning and variance issues, and attend relevant meetings.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, building codes, and design innovations to maintain relevancy in the field.
- Proficient in design software such as Chief Architect, Sketch Up, and rendering tools (Twin Motion, Lumion, or Enscape), as well as presentation platforms (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
- Regularly report project updates to clients, Design Director, and the internal team, ensuring clear communication regarding timelines, budgets, and project scopes.
- Manage design agreements, tracking hours and ensuring work remains within budgeted hours.
- Maintain and update the company’s material library and bid spec material spreadsheets, ensuring pricing accuracy and product availability.
- Handle client calls, assess potential projects, and maintain clear, professional communication throughout the process.
- Proficiency in design software (Chief Architect, Sketch Up, Twin Motion/Lumion/Enscape).
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to balance multiple projects and deadlines.
- Experience in working with subcontractors, suppliers, and municipal authorities.
- Ability to mentor and guide junior designers, providing constructive feedback.
- Knowledge of building codes and permitting processes.
