The Adult Services Library Assistant supports library operations by providing excellent customer service, assisting patrons with reference and technology needs, and helping plan and deliver adult programs. This role also contributes to maintaining collections, promoting library resources, and fostering a welcoming environment for lifelong learning.

Part-Time 18 hours per week (Tuesday 2:15-8:15; Thursday 8:45-2:45; Friday 2:15-6:15)

Varies; some flexibility based on business needs, outreach activities, and desk schedule
Pay Range: $16.00+ per hour, DOQ
- Provides excellent customer service and actively promotes library services to the public
- Assists patrons with reference and research inquiries
- Assists patrons of all skill levels with copying, printing, faxing, and computer usage
- Creates displays and reader’s advisory materials
- Assists in the planning and coordination of adult programs and outreach activities
- Provides 1:1 and group instruction for patrons on a wide range of devices
- Assists patrons with accessing community and online resources
- Maintains order and cleanliness of department and patron areas
- Carries out opening and closing procedures, including end‑of‑day reports
- High school diploma or GED required;
Associate’s degree desired - Proficiency with Microsoft Office software applications and electronic devices
- Familiarity with software and applications like Sierra, Vega, Libby, and Hoopla a plus
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; bilingual and/or ESL skills a plus
- Able to think creatively and communicate effectively with others
- Able to multi‑task and adjust work priorities, as needed
- Able to adapt to change and work well as part of a team
- Able to solve problems and handle escalated situations in a calm, capable manner
- Proficient with the operation and basic troubleshooting of desktop computers, laptops, portable projection equipment, and a variety of smartphones and tablets
- Able to hear, comprehend, and respond to others verbally and in writing
- Able to drive a car and hold a valid Illinois driver’s license
