Overview

The Associate Director of Library Services directs, plans, implements, and evaluates the provision of library services at Methodist College.

Responsibilities
  • Ensures the effective operation of the library in supporting the mission of the College
  • Collaborates with Methodist College administration, faculty and staff.
  • Maintains the security of the library’s resources.
  • Participates and assists with College events, i.e. orientation, graduation, etc.
  • Serves on ad hoc College committees when appropriate, and as a standing member of the Scholarship and Research Committee of Faculty Senate.
  • Manages the library’s collection and access to resources.
  • Purchases and catalogs (copy cataloging and original cataloging) all books and other materials for the library.
  • Maintains item records for catalogs, e.g. local and World Cat.
  • Confers with faculty to collect items most relevant to the curriculum and address any needs.
  • Anticipates and explores how to support the needs of all academic programs.
  • Develops and updates course reserves.
  • Oversees the selection, purchase, billing, budget, and statistics of electronic resources.
  • Keeps website and library software application up-to-date.
  • Ensures proper stacks management.
  • Ensures proper set-up and use of the integrated library system.
  • Maintains responsibilities for circulation, reference, and instruction services.
  • Provides reference services in-person and online.
  • Develops research guides and tutorials as needed.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of resources available by participating in professional development for higher ed librarians.
  • Develops, plans, and leads library workshops/programs/events.
  • Provides library instruction in-person and online; in classes and in the library.
  • Manages interlibrary loan requests.
  • Oversees circulation and patron management.
  • Assists with archiving Methodist College memorabilia and scholarship.
  • Maintains unit statistics.
  • Effectively integrates library student workers to deliver library services.
  • Interviews, schedules, trains, schedules, and reviews library student workers.
  • Assures preparation of student workers to be first line of support for technology including wireless printing, learning management system, student management system and other technology as needed.
  • Oversees regular service of printers/copiers in the library and Student Computer Lab.
  • Effectively sustains adequate job knowledge, professional growth and problem solving.
  • Represents the Methodist College Library at meetings on and off-site when required.
  • Represents Methodist College Library at regional, state and national library events.
  • Pursues educational opportunities through attendance at local and state conferences, as appropriate.
  • Maintains knowledge of the advances in library science.
  • Makes recommendation for enhancements of library services.
  • Directs library operations.
  • Proposes the annual library budget for approval.
  • Directs and controls the expenditure of the approved budget.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises library staff.
  • Promotes the library.
  • Prepares annual reports.
  • Troubleshoots technology issues.
  • Advises on fair use and copyright issues/laws and maintains all records required by applicable copyright law.
  • Maintains the library’s consortia relationships.
Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $19.1 per hour - $30.94 per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
