Summary

Illinois Central College is seeking adjunct faculty in the Medical Laboratory Technician Program to teach theory and laboratory courses during the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Teaching may occur during day, afternoon, and/or evening. Adjuncts may continue teaching future semesters if courses are available. The primary responsibility is to teach assigned courses while maintaining programmatic and accreditation standards. Adjunct faculty must adhere to instructional syllabi, support student success, and maintain access for students during office hours.

Maximum assignment may be up to 12 contact hours for fall and spring semesters, and if also teaching summer, contact hours must be maintained at or below 29 for the academic year.

Essential Functions
  • Maintain highest possible standards of the Medical Laboratory Technician Program.
  • Facilitate teaching and learning opportunities, ensuring all necessary materials and tools are readily available and safety standards are met.
  • Adhere to course syllabi for assigned courses and communicate expectations to ensure student success.
  • Maintain office hours and availability for students.
  • Collaborate effectively with program faculty and agency staff to continuously improve and adapt student learning experiences.
  • Document, review, analyze, and report student assessment results for the program assessment plan.
  • Seek professional development to remain current within medical laboratory education, workforce trends, and emerging technology.
  • Maintain skills through professional development, continuing education, and scholarly activities appropriate to higher education and professional discipline.
  • Embrace mission and goals of the college to maintain an educational environment that promotes student success and community relationships.
  • Support college-wide initiatives and actively participate in program and organizational meetings.
  • Perform assigned responsibilities during the day, evening and/or weekend on any campus or clinical facility.
  • Perform related duties as required.
  • Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree from a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) accredited program.
  • Current ASCP certification as a medical laboratory scientist or medical laboratory technician.
  • Minimum of three (3) years full-time clinical experience as a medical laboratory scientist or medical laboratory technician.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analyzing and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and prioritizing skills to meet critical deadlines.
  • Strong multitasking and decision‑making skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with others.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree or above in medical laboratory science.
  • Membership and participation in state and national professional organizations.
  • Five (5) or more years of clinical experience as medical laboratory scientist or medical laboratory technician.
  • Experience as an instructor in a MLT program.
  • Experience teaching at a community college.
  • Experience serving the needs of a diverse student population.
