Position: Adjunct Faculty- Nurse Assistant (CNA) Instructor

Job Summary

Illinois Central College is seeking adjunct faculty to teach day, evening, and weekend, on‑campus, off‑campus, or online course offerings within the Certified Nursing Assistant Program. Adjuncts may continue to teach for future semesters if courses are available.

Adjunct faculty primarily provide quality teaching and learning opportunities for students in assigned classes, labs, and/or clinical settings and must adhere to Illinois Department of Public Health rules, program standards, and course syllabus. They should be accessible and available to assist students, maintain office hours, and ensure student academic success.

Teaching load: up to 11‑12 contact hours per fall and spring semester, up to 5‑6 contact hours for summer semester, and/or 29 hours or less during an academic year. Adjunct faculty must be a resident of Illinois at the time of hire.

Essential Functions
  • Adhere to instructional syllabus for teaching assigned courses, communicate course schedule, expectations, and student learning outcomes.
  • Maintain a positive teaching‑learning environment, ensure availability of necessary materials and tools, and adhere to safety standards.
  • Provide grading rubrics and timely feedback for assignments, projects, exams, labs, and clinical performance; maintain student grades in Canvas; record attendance; keep students informed of academic progress; submit course grades.
  • Maintain office hours and availability for students; maintain professional, positive, effective communication.
  • Facilitate student success, in collaboration with the Program Manager and program faculty, by identifying barriers, resolving issues, and referring students to resources such as access services, academic success, student services, counseling, financial assistance, and other academic resources.
  • Establish and maintain continuous professional relationships within program, department, college, and community to assure student and program success.
  • Participate in program faculty meetings to evaluate, review, revise and plan curriculum and related learning activities.
  • Participate in departmental and college committees, meetings, and activities whenever possible.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to continuously improve and adapt the student experience to meet the needs of the student, community, and institution.
  • Enhance knowledge and improve teaching by participating in professional development and continuing education.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Earned Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Current Illinois professional registered nurse licensure.
  • Two (2) years of clinical experience as a registered nurse.
  • Evidence of experience providing nursing care for chronically ill, elderly, geriatrics, or residents in skilled or long‑term care settings.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Earned Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Nursing.
  • Completion of IDPH Train the Trainer instructor certification.
  • Documentation of 4 CEUs in Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.
  • Three (3) or more years of clinical experience providing care to chronically ill, elderly, geriatrics, or residents in skilled or long‑term care settings.
  • Academic teaching experience.
  • Community college experience.
