Program Aide (Summer Youth Program). LOCATION/DEPT:
Peoria Citadel.
REPORTS TO:

No. FLSA CATEGORY:
Non-Exempt, Full Time. Seasonal and temporary up to 90 days. PAY GRADE: 201. PAY RATE: $15.53 per hour. This position is within The Salvation Army, North and Central Illinois Division.
JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for aiding the supervision and direction of the educational, recreational, and developmental programs at The Salvation Army Youth Center.
- Assist in the overall administrative components of the Youth Center. This may include:
- Performs routine typing work such as letters or routine correspondence.
- Filing forms, letters and correspondence.
- Transcribing program communications during monthly meetings.
- Preparing materials for workshops and meetings.
- Assist Youth Director with program duties.
- Assist in the overall operation of the Youth Center including, but not limited to:
- Supervision of after school children in scheduled daily activities including completion of homework assignments, tutoring in math and reading, crafts, and computer stations.
- Assist as needed with room preparations, scheduling of activities, meal preparation and clean-up as well as recreation activities.
- Supervise arrival and departure of campers.
- Assist in preparation of visits by visiting teachers or special guests.
- Assist in statistics, daily, weekly, and monthly reporting as needed.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of the individual students:
- Learn to know the needs of everyone and be available to help each individual experience success.
- Help each student meet and exceed personal learning and achievement goals.
- Follow Safe from Harm Guidelines closely to ensure safety and well-being of each individual student.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Successfully satisfy the training requirements associated to the position and as required by The Salvation Army.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
High School Diploma or equivalent. Significant experience may be considered in lieu of.
Candidates must be passionate to work with school-aged children and be willing to demonstrate sound moral principles and leadership qualities. One to two years of experience working with youth is preferred.
Skills/Abilities- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience or capacity to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills and work as a cooperative team member.
- Close attention to detail and a high level of confidentiality.
- Ability to multi-task several projects concurrently.
- Must have an interest and ability to work with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner.
- Ability to establish and implement policies and procedures.
- Proficiency in computer software applications, including demonstrated experience in using email, MS Office applications.
- This individual will only commit resources of The Salvation Army that have been allocated or approved.
- This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position. The individual will keep the designated Supervisor informed of all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.
- This position requires participation in all physical activities including outdoor recreation, walking, climbing stairs, group activities, and one-to-one instruction. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision. Work may be indoors or outdoors to attend meetings or see employees. Noise levels may vary from quiet to boisterous.
Some duties require travel; a valid MVR is required.
- This position reports to the Youth Director. Interactions will involve internal and external contacts as a representative of The Salvation Army and its mission.
