Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Business Administrative Associate I for Academic Affairs, the Medical Education Program Specialist‑CME assists in the coordination of Continuing Medical Education (CME) activities, having responsibilities with certified AMA PRA Category 1 Credit TM CME sessions conducted by the College of Medicine. The employee will assist faculty with day‑to‑day operations and delivery of faculty development programs that are cross‑departmental and at all levels of physician training.

The employee would also coordinate aspects of the 10‑month faculty development program with direction from the Chair of the Caterpillar Faculty Scholars program.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Coordination of Continuing Medical Education (CME) Program – serves as University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria contact liaison for physicians, residents, affiliated local/regional hospitals, medical institutions, and organizations regarding CME activities.
  • Assists CME Chair with implementing changes and/or updates from Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) requirements.
  • Organizes CME activities and prepares, develops and maintains schedules.
  • Prepares materials to assist medical education participants with content requirements for CME program applications.
  • Compiles materials for and attends all Peoria and College CME committee meetings and retreats; assists the CME Chair by organizing meeting agendas/minutes, adding proposals to the local CME meeting agenda and managing action items associated with local CME committee proposal approvals or returns for revisions.
  • Manages confidential database of Continuing Medical Education program records (for physician participants, hospitals, and organizations) with responsibility for accuracy and reporting in accordance with ACCME accreditation standards.
  • Establishes records of approved CME activities for annual reporting; requests program evaluations from departments to track attendance for faculty requesting CME credits.
  • Assists with the orientation of new staff responsible for department CME program application, ensuring their understanding of requirements and policy.
  • Coordination of Caterpillar Faculty Scholars Fellowship – at the beginning of each new fellowship cohort, prepares and submits call for applications.
  • Receives and reviews applications for eligibility criteria and ensures adherence to guidelines.
  • Prepares and distributes application information for review by the advisory committee; clarifies or requests additional information as requested by the advisory committee.
  • Coordinates and assists with the orientation of new program participants (cohort scholars).
  • Prepares MOU for scholars and home departments that identify time commitment and support requirements.
  • Serves as faculty scholars' primary contact and liaison; answers program questions based on established guidelines and practices.
  • Assists CAT Scholar Program Director with preparation of instructional materials and distributes materials to the scholars.
