Long‑Term Substitute 8th Grade Language Arts Teacher

Under the direction of the Building Administrator, this Long‑Term Substitute Teacher will be responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned 8th grade Language Arts classes. The position is full‑time for the dates listed below and includes qualifying for benefits for the assignment period.

• Professional Educator License or Substitute Teaching License issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Previous substitute experience at Rantoul City Schools preferred.
• Fluent in Spanish and English; able to provide instruction in Spanish for the entire school day.

• Fill long‑term substitute teaching needs, including lesson planning (with assistance from administration and teachers) and assessing student progress.
• Attend parent‑teacher conferences, trainings, and meetings as needed.
• Communicate with parents regarding student academic and behavioral information.
• Supervise students in various school‑related settings.
• Follow lesson plans and instructions provided by teachers, or use appropriate classroom resources when plans are unavailable.
• Establish positive learning standards for all students.
• Maintain accurate student attendance records.
• Encourage student growth in self‑discipline, self‑concept, fairness, and respect.
• Manage classroom organization and clean rooms at the end of the day.
• Provide daily communication to the teacher and administration, including lesson plan ratings.
• Modify instruction to meet student needs and collaborate with staff, parents, and community representatives.

• Report self‑absences using district procedures if unable to fulfill duties.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

• $243.36 per day for the length of the assignment.
• Sick/personal leave accrual: 1 sick day per continuous month worked and 0.25 personal day per continuous month worked.

The position begins on August 12, 2026, and may vary in duration depending on district staffing. The substitute remains in place until a fully‑certified teacher is hired.
