The substitute teacher is considered a ministerial employee by virtue of their role in a Catholic school and is expected to work diligently to support and strengthen the Catholic Church and its value system. Catholic school employees are expected to uphold the official teachings of the Catholic Church in all personal and professional aspects, while substitute teachers play a substantial role in conveying the Church's message and carrying out its mission.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Serve as a positive role model and support the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church at all times.
- Create a faith‑focused learning environment within the classroom and school.
- Facilitate student success and growth in both academic and interpersonal skills.
- Implement the absent teacher's written plans with fidelity, and document student progress, activities, and outcomes as directed.
- Leave detailed notes for the absent teacher.
- Create a flexible, safe, and optimal learning environment.
- Model the Catholic faith in words, actions, speech, dress, and demeanor.
- Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small‑group instruction.
- Differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles and needs, per the teacher's directives.
- Conduct individual and small‑group instruction as needed.
- Ensure student conduct conforms to the school's standards and Diocesan policies.
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
- Utilize available technology to enhance instruction.
- Supervise students in activities that occur outside the classroom, including transportation, arrival, and dismissal.
- Seek the advice and counsel of the principal and fellow educators as appropriate when dealing with classroom issues.
- Use standard office equipment, Microsoft Office, and other technology to enhance lessons.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by school administration.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or a related discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
- Practicing Catholic preferred; required to teach religion or theology courses.
- Preferred: prior teaching experience in elementary or secondary education.
- Preferred: experience differentiating instruction to meet diverse student needs.
- Excellent communication and classroom management skills essential.
- Knowledge of Catholic elementary school curriculum and concepts.
Part‑time, unbenefited. Substitute teacher works as needed or on a schedule developed by the principal.
Salary Range$80 - $150 per day.
BenefitsNot eligible for benefits.
Physical AbilitiesAbility to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, use hands, reach with arms, and ascend or descend multiple flights of stairs. Capability to lift 20–30 pounds if required.
