Long-Term Substitute Teacher – Art Teacher – JW Eater Junior High
Job Summary: Under the direction of the Building Administrator, this Long‑Term Substitute Teacher will be responsible for instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes, and perform related duties as required. The position is full‑time for the defined dates listed below and includes qualifying for benefits during that time period.
GeneralQualifications:
- Professional Educator License or Substitute Teaching License issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
- Strong communication skills (written and oral).
- Prefer previous substitute experience at Rantoul City Schools.
- Fill long‑term substitute teaching needs, including lesson planning with assistance from administration and teachers, and assessing student progress.
- Attend parent‑teacher conferences, trainings, and meetings as needed.
- Communicate with parents, and, after consulting with administration, provide updates on academic or behavioral matters.
- Supervise students in various school‑related settings.
- Follow lesson plans and instructions provided by the teacher; if plans are unavailable, use appropriate classroom resources and collaborate with nearby teachers to create plans.
- Establish positive learning expectation standards for all students.
- Maintain accurate student attendance records.
- Encourage student growth in self‑discipline and positive self‑concept; ensure fairness and respect in teacher‑student relationships.
- Manage classroom organization; clean and organize the room at the end of the day.
- Provide communication to the teacher at the end of the day, including a rating of the lesson plans and instructions left by the teacher.
- Modify instruction to meet student needs; work effectively with pupils, parents, guardians, staff members, and community representatives.
- Apply contemporary principles and practices of teaching; exhibit good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; exercise sound and professional judgment.
- Follow district procedures for reporting self‑absences if assigned a classroom and unable to fulfill the duty.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Effectively communicate (verbal and written) with parents, colleagues, administration, and other members of the educational community.
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Use web‑based programs, e‑mail, and technology (laptop, Smart board, etc.) effectively.
- Indoor classrooms: exposure to student noise, lawn mowing, music, food odors, and possible communicable diseases.
- Outdoor schoolyard and grounds, including field trips: exposure to varying temperatures and mowed grass.
- Regular work attendance required.
- $243.36 per day for the length of assignment.
- Sick leave: one sick day per month worked; 0.25 personal day per month worked.
The position will begin on August 12, 2026. The duration may vary depending on the district’s ability to fill the vacancy with a qualified teacher; the assignment will terminate when a fully‑certified teacher is hired.
PhysicalJob Requirements:
Stand, walk, sit, use hands dexterously, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop/kneel/crouch or crawl, talk or hear, smell, and lift or carry up to 10 pounds. Work to the extent required by the job.
