Public Services Librarian/Assistant Professor

Location

Frazar Memorial Library, McNeese State University, Lake Charles, LA

Appointment

Full-time, 12-month, unclassified; available immediately

Position Summary

The Public Services Librarian/Assistant Professor reports to the Head of Public Services and participates in the library’s public services, instruction, liaison, scholarship, and assessment initiatives. The role emphasizes evaluating library initiatives, instruction, and services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advocate for library services across campus
  • Participate in library liaison program
  • Plan and conduct library orientations, information literacy classes, and course-specific activities
  • Prepare study guides, reports, and special materials
  • Analyze and report qualitative and quantitative data to support strategic planning
  • Research and implement new data collection methods for library assessment
  • Stay current with trends in libraries and librarianship through reading, conferences, workshops, scholarship, and professional engagement
  • Provide reference service and research assistance through multiple modes (in-person, email, phone, chat, text)
  • Organize library resources and assist with building tours
  • Serve on committees, participate in evening/weekend rotations
  • Assist in training student workers

    Perform other duties as assigned
  • Physically retrieve library resources, push loaded book carts, lift up to 20 pounds
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA‑accredited institution
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to adapt to changing technology
  • Ability to work well independently and collaboratively
  • Skill in preparing and conducting presentations for various audiences
  • Adaptability to changes in task priorities and work environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in academic public services
  • Experience assessing library services
