Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer & Controls Engineer to lead front-end product architecture and simulation activities for electrified powertrain systems. This role focuses on model-based engineering (MBE) and first-principles system simulation to support early-stage design, architecture decisions, and system validation for advanced electrified powertrains.
The ideal candidate will have strong MATLAB/Simulink expertise, a systems-level mindset, and hands-on experience developing simulation-based architectures and control models for hybrid and electric powertrain systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and apply 1D system-level simulation models for electrified powertrains
- Architect and size powertrain systems, including:
- Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV)
- Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV)
- Translate product and system requirements into simulation-driven designs
- Support early phases of the V-model development lifecycle
- Develop and integrate control algorithms within system simulations
- Collaborate closely with validation teams to ensure:
- Alignment between simulation and physical testing
- Virtual models accurately represent real-world behavior
- Work across multidisciplinary teams including motors, batteries, converters, and mechanical systems
Required Technical Skills
Core (Non-Negotiable) Skills
- Strong expertise in Model-Based Engineering (MBE)
- Experience with first-principles modeling
- Advanced proficiency in MATLAB / Simulink, including:
- Algorithm development
- Control logic implementation
- Function block–based modeling
- Controls experience focused on system and powertrain control algorithms
- (
Note:
This is not IT or PLC-based controls)
Simulation & CAE Tools
- Primary Tool: MATLAB / Simulink
- Secondary Tools (Nice to Have):
- Simcenter (used for architecture and NPI work)
- Tool-agnostic mindset with the ability to adapt to new simulation environments
Systems Engineering Expectations
- Strong systems-level thinking across electrified powertrain components
- Experience in sizing and architecting:
- Batteries
- Electric motors
- Gearboxes
- Solid understanding of how complete electric powertrain systems interact
- Broad system knowledge preferred over narrow domain specialization
Industry Background
Candidates from the following industries are encouraged to apply:
- Automotive
- Off-Highway
- Aerospace
- Rail
- Marine
Experience with medium- to high-voltage systems is highly valued:
- Voltage range: 48V to 1500V+ (up to ~3kV)
Programming & Automation
- Python experience is preferred but not mandatory
- Some simulation workflows and notebooks are Python-based
- Ideal candidates can work in both:
- MATLAB / Simulink
- Python
- Strong expertise in one with working knowledge of the other is acceptable
