Job Description

Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.

When you join Caterpillar, you are part of a global team that values each other as much as the work we do. We create stronger, more sustainable communities by making progress and innovation a reality with our customers, our people, and the places where we work and live.

The Strategic Procurement & Planning Division (SPPD) is looking for a Supply Chain Project Engineer to lead key supply‑chain capacity and agility projects and implement capacity‑planning processes across the network.

In this role you will partner across internal functions and external stakeholders to implement integrated supply‑chain solutions that deliver the right capacity and agility to meet operational performance goals. You will also provide technical process support for key component production value streams, establish capacity requirements with facilities and product groups, drive key process‑improvement initiatives, and support facility‑level capacity modeling.

What makes this role exciting

This high‑impact role turns complex supply‑chain data into actionable insights, driving measurable improvements in efficiency, cost, and operational performance. You will translate insights into real‑world outcomes, partner across engineering, supply chain, and operations teams, shape decisions, influence strategy, and transform supply‑chain performance from analysis to action.

What you will do
  • Identify, define, and implement integrated supply‑chain capacity and agility solutions and performance improvements.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with product groups, digital teams, and facilities on projects and solutions.
  • Analyze data to prioritize opportunities that improve supply‑chain performance and efficiency.
  • Provide technical guidance and support for key component capacity and agility plans.
  • Lead facility and product‑group supply‑chain engineering engagements focused on capacity and agility.
  • Drive initiatives with the Digital Development Team to accelerate execution and scalability.
What skills you will have
  • Analytical Thinking: Identify root causes, evaluate trade‑offs, and perform cost‑benefit and risk analysis to guide decisions.
  • Project Management: Plan, organize, and manage projects, including risk identification, resource planning, and stakeholder communication.
  • Supply Chain Management – Manufacturing: Understand supply‑chain processes, tools, and integration points to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Supplier Management – Manufacturing: Support supplier relationships, resolve issues, and ensure delivery and quality expectations are met.
  • Cross‑Team Integration: Collaborate across functions and align stakeholders to achieve business results.
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Structure problems, assess alternatives, and support informed decision‑making.
Top candidates will also have
  • Demonstrated experience in a manufacturing or supply‑chain functional role, leadership role, or project‑leadership role.
  • Proficiency in capacity planning, efficiency modeling, or throughput‑optimization tools (e.g., efficiency calculators or simulation tools).
  • Proven ability to lead or contribute to cross‑functional supply‑chain or operations‑improvement projects.
  • Strong stakeholder communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across engineering, procurement, logistics, and operations teams.
Additional information
  • Location: Peoria, IL – on‑site work five days a week.
  • Relocation: Not available.
  • Sponsorship: Not available.
  • Travel: Up to 10–15% travel.
