Job Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Process Engineer to lead and support manufacturing and capital engineering projects in a heavy industrial environment. This role combines project management, manufacturing support, and mechanical/metallurgical engineering to improve production processes, solve complex technical issues, and drive projects from planning through installation and startup. The ideal candidate is comfortable spending time on the manufacturing floor, collaborating with cross-functional teams, troubleshooting equipment and process issues, and ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering projects from concept through commissioning, startup, and final handoff.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, action plans, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate with operations, maintenance, quality, suppliers, and contractors to keep projects moving forward.
  • Support capital equipment installations, modifications, production startups, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Spend significant time on the manufacturing floor understanding equipment, processes, safety concerns, and production challenges.
  • Apply metallurgical and mechanical engineering principles to material selection, process qualification, equipment evaluation, and root cause analysis.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, test data, process data, and supplier documentation.
  • Support mechanical systems including fixtures, piping, utilities, fluid systems, and industrial equipment.
  • Lead meetings, document action items, and communicate project status, risks, and next steps with stakeholders.
  • Drive issue resolution through proactive communication and collaboration while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and production goals.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 5–7 years of experience in manufacturing, plant engineering, heavy industry, industrial equipment, or capital project environments.
  • Equivalent combination of a technical degree and extensive hands-on manufacturing/project experience may be considered.
  • Experience leading engineering projects and driving them through completion.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and industrial equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, test results, and process data.
  • Experience coordinating with production, maintenance, quality, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Strong project management skills, including scope, schedule, cost, and risk management.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining urgency, accountability, and follow-through.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with heat treatment, steel manufacturing, casting, forging, machining, surface treatment, or similar industrial processes.
  • Experience supporting capital equipment projects, plant installations, production launches, or equipment relocations.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems and manufacturing operations.
  • Demonstrated success working in fast-paced manufacturing environments with changing priorities.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with technicians, operators, maintenance personnel, and engineering teams.
