Police Recruit Examination Process
Salary: $72,800

Required DocumentsRequired Documents: Photocopies of Driver’s License, certified Birth Certificate and High School Diploma OR High School Transcript OR GED Certificate (Must accompany application)
Qualifications & RequirementsAge: 21 years old by date of last written examination (02/14/26), or 20 years old, if successfully completed two (2) years of law enforcement studies at an accredited college or university. Cannot have attained age 35 when the application is submitted. (By State statute, exceptions made for individuals with prior municipal police experience. See the Human Resources Department for additional information).
Education: Minimum:
Graduation from High School or GED equivalency accepted. Candidates with associate degree or hours toward bachelor’s degree desirable.
Military: A Veteran shall be allowed to exceed the maximum age provision by the number of years served on active military duty, but by no more than 10 years of active military duty. (45 years old)
Other: U.S. Citizenship; valid driver’s license; physical condition to perform the essential functions of the position and pass physical agility exam; no felony conviction.
Vision & Hearing: Applicants must meet minimum standards for vision and hearing. Applicants who wear glasses or contact lenses must meet minimum standards of visual acuity. Vision with corrective (glasses or contact lenses) lenses should not be less than 20/20 in the better eye, 20/40 in the worst eye, and 20/20 with both eyes open. Uncorrected (no glasses or contact lenses) vision is 20/40 and should not be 20/200 or worse with either eye.
Residency: Applicants need not be residents of the City to apply. When hired, you must establish and maintain principal place of residency within a 20-mile radius of the Peoria Police Department.
Orientation (Not Mandatory)In addition to the general orientation, there will be discussions on interview preparation and techniques on how to interview.

Written ExaminationThe City of Peoria offers testing through National Testing Network (NTN). You have to register with NTN for online and in-person testing. To register with NTN and schedule a test, go to , select 'Find Jobs', then select (Law Enforcement) jobs, and sign up for the City of Peoria.
There will be three In-Person test dates:
Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 8:00am OR at 6:00pm OR Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 8:00am. All in-person testing will be held at Peoria Police Department, 600 SW Adams Street, Community Training Room, Peoria, IL 61602. NO ONE ADMITTED AFTER 6PM or 8AM – NO EXCEPTIONS
