Over 800,000+ employees and growing Allied Universal Services is seeking a knowledgeable and driven Deputy Chief - Firefighter Trainer to lead the training and professional development of our emergency response team at a major manufacturing facility in Peoria, IL.
The position will support four areas, Mossville, IL, East Peoria, IL, Mapleton, IL, and Washington, IL. In this key leadership role, you will be responsible for designing, coordinating, and delivering comprehensive fire and emergency response training programs. You'll ensure that all Firefighter-EMTs are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to respond effectively to fire, medical, and hazardous materials incidents in a complex industrial environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* This role will serve as Deputy Chief and act as the 2nd in command. This officer will hold the authority for the department in the absence of the fire chief.
* Coordinate the organization, staffing, and operational activities for assigned programs, activities, and operations of the fire battalion including operations, emergency medical services, disaster preparedness, fire prevention, fire inspection, fire investigation, code enforcement, training, facility/equipment maintenance, and related programs, services, and operations.
* Respond to alarms as required by departmental policy; act as incident commander at emergency scenes and assume command of operations unless relieved of command by a superior officer and/or a designated client representative; prepare follow-up incident reports and investigations as required.
* Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies,and priorities; recommend and implement resulting policies and procedures.
* Identify opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures; identify resource needs; review with appropriate client and management staff; implement improvements.
* Direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for assigned Fire Department programs, functions, services, and activities; assign work activities and projects; monitor work flow; review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems.
* Participate in the selection of assigned personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures.
* Participate in the development and administration of assigned program budget(s); forecast funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and submits proposed expenditures; recommend adjustments as necessary.
* Oversee the development and implementation of the client's fire and life safety inspections programs; supervise and participate in the inspection of clients facilities (manufacturing, assembly, storage, office) including the inspection of fire protection systems; oversee and participate in the interpretation and enforcement of codes, laws, and the client's policies related to fire suppression, fire prevention, and related health and safety codes;
supervise and participate in fire sprinkler, alarm,and hydrant flow tests; supervise proper maintenance of hydrants located within the client's property line.
* Update the Fire Prevention Plan based on changes in the NFPA Guidelines; meetwith the client, contractors, and appropriate business owners on the interpretation and application of said plan.
* Implement training programs as prescribed by the training department.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Must possess one or more of the following:
Be a fire academy graduate from a State certified or Department of Defense certified training facility meeting the NFPA 1001 Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications training guidelines. Possess a Firefighter III certificate from a State Fire Marshal's office or from the Department of Defense adopted by the state where fire services are performed.
* Ideal candidates will preferably hold one or more of the following:
Associate's degree in fire science, fire administration, public administration. Associate's degree in other related field if supplemented with specialized Fire Officer training.
* Must possess a valid driver's license appropriate for the fire apparatus to be driven for the state of employment.
* Must possess each of the following:
Fire Instructor II certification, HAZMAT technician certification, Rescue Specialist Confined Space certification, Certification as a Fire Officer from a State approved or Department of Defense training facility meeting the NFPA 1021 Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualification guidelines, Valid Basic Life Support CPR/AED card from American Heart Association or the American Red Cross, Current Hazardous Materials First Responder at the Technician Level certificate in accordance with 29 CFR (q),…
