SHC is accepting applications for the position of Activity Assistant. We are currently looking to fill a 1st shift position.
Requirements
Candidates must be 18 years old and possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Experience with activities, event planning, or teaching is preferred. Experience working in long-term care, behavioral health, and/or geriatric health is preferred, but training will be provided for interested candidates who are eager to serve our special populations.
Job Summary
Qualified candidates should be able to:
- Provide a variety of activities and offer popular programming on a recurring basis to maintain participant interest.
- Facilitate culturally competent activities that celebrate diverse ethnicities, holidays, and backgrounds.
- Follow a daily activity calendar and post it in common areas throughout the facility.
- Obtain resource materials for activities, including arranging transportation and supervision when needed.
- Encourage socialization and foster one-to-one relationships among patients.
- Promote hobbies and provide necessary supplies.
- Support participation in religious activities, including attending services, spiritual readings, prayer meetings, and visits with clergy.
- Stimulate interest in music through entertainment groups, sing-alongs, recitals, and talent shows.
- Maximize patient involvement by providing reminders, escorts, personal invitations, and transportation.
- Complete and submit attendance sheets and other documentation for all activities.
