Overview
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reports to the Supervisor of Cancer Services. The primary purpose of the Cancer Services Counselor position is to provide comprehensive psychosocial assessment and counseling services to individuals, families, and groups to promote an appropriate adjustment to cancer from diagnosis through treatment and into survivorship and/or bereavement. Counseling services will be provided primarily on an outpatient basis but this position will be a resource to inpatient cancer patients and their families as well.
This position supports compliance with treatment protocols, advanced care planning, and assists with resource linkage as a part of the multidisciplinary care team. Directs patients and their families to designated community agencies or resources, as necessary. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient services appropriate to the ages of the patients served.

Expected pay for this position is $31.49 - $37.05/hour. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity. This is a Salaried position.
QualificationsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field.
- Currently licensed in the state of Illinois as an LCSW or LCPC
- Three years relevant experience
- Analytical skills necessary in order to assess life threatening situations regarding potential suicides, homicides and child abuse and take appropriate action.
- Ability to administer, score and interpret self report questionnaires, diagnose mental disorders, and develop treatment plans from diagnosis through survivorship.
- Ability to assist in building and administering the Cancer Services Program, specifically as it relates to providing psychosocial support, while maintaining a warm, professional, personal, informative, and effective program.
- Ability to establish collegial, professional relationships with cancer care providers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Oncology experience preferred.
