Position: HEALTH - ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH SPECIALIST/PRACTITIONER

Health - Environmental Health Specialist/Practitioner

To ensure compliance in order to safeguard the public health through enforcement and education of state, federal, county and city regulatory programs and requirements such as:
Food Protection, Private Sewage Disposal Systems, Private Water Supplies, Lead Poisoning Control, Tanning Salons, tattoo and body piercing, Illinois Liquor Control Commission (LC-13), and nuisance control (refuse and trash - unincorporated areas only), vector control, etc Bachelor's degree in Biology, Public Health, Environmental Health, or related field with a minimum of 30 semester hours in the biological sciences (state requirement) or 45 hours of health science.

Licensed Lead Risk Assessor preferred. Excellent problem solving and decision making skills. Must attend IDPH New Sanitarian three year training program
- Year one within one year of employment, Year two within two years of employment, Year three within three years of employment and receive annual continuing education in each program (food program 5 hours/year, water well program 3 hours/year, sewage program 3 hours/year). Ability to become LC-13 Project Inspector for the State of Illinois Liquor Control Commission within 6 months of hire.

Registered Sanitarian or Licensed Environmental Health Practitioner preferred. Knowledge and ability to utilize computers and related technology efficiently, including but not limited to:
Windows based operating systems;
Microsoft Office software such as Word, Outlook, and Excel;
Presentation software such as PowerPoint and Canva; and program specific software as necessary. Familiarity with collaboration software such as SharePoint preferred. Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written as well as strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain working relationships with other numerous outside agencies, and the public. Must also possess public speaking skills. Must have a valid Illinois drivers license, proof of auto liability insurance, and access to reliable transportation.
