Position: DSP (Community Day Services)

Community Day Services Direct Support Professional (DSP) – 1st Shift Only – Monday-Friday. This DSP position has a set schedule every week. All DSP positions require a High School Diploma or GED. This position does not require a driver's license.

Position Objective

Under the direct supervision of the SSD, provide personal assistance, instruction, assessment and overall supervision of individuals in assigned training areas, e.g., personal care, vocational development, social skills, leisure activities, educational curriculum and community-based learning. Assist in developing individualized outcomes, preparing training materials, documenting progress and attendance, and recording behavioral program information in Therap. Implement recommendations in accordance with the Individualized Service Plans and confer with the SSD regarding individual progress.

Will follow Rule 50, Dept. of Human Services Rule 115, Rule 116, Rule 119, Rule 120, and other relevant regulatory guidelines.

  • In conjunction with the HR Department, interview, hire, supervise, assign, evaluate the performance of, and when necessary, discharge assigned personnel directly and in cooperation with appropriate department heads.
Program/Department Development and Coordination
  • Assure that individuals in assigned area are participating in all phases of their program, e.g., job readiness trainings, work skills, therapy, recreation, training, leisure, social skills and educational curriculum at scheduled times.
  • When necessary, assist individuals with personal care such as transferring, toileting, eating and/or grooming.
  • Provide natural learning opportunities, encouraging the person to be as independent as possible, at work, in the community, and during recreation, leisure or educational activities.
  • Serve as positive role model for the person.
  • Supervise lunch, break periods, arrivals, departures, and other areas as assigned.
  • Utilize job/task analyses and/or behavior management techniques when applicable to train individuals on assigned tasks.
  • As applicable, provide transportation to persons served.
  • Implement recommendations made by the Interdisciplinary Team in accordance with the Individualized Service Plans.
  • Assist in developing training materials including task analyses and instructional guides.
  • Function as a team member, enlisting the cooperation of both persons served and staff in performing job duties.
  • Maintain assigned area in a safe, clean and orderly condition in an effort to provide an atmosphere conducive to instruction and training.
