- Manage processes involved in respiratory therapy, ventilator management, ECG, oxygen administration, and airway management
- Perform all forms of respiratory therapy, non-invasive cardiology, and assigned patient care duties
- Interpret and execute physician orders
- Individualize and anticipate therapy to meet patient needs
- Calculate medication dosages and provide patient education
- Perform intubations and change tracheostomy tubes as assigned
- Perform oxygen rounds and respond to pages and requests
- Arrange home oxygen, nebulizer, and suction equipment and provide home care instructions
- Respond immediately to emergencies, RRT calls, and codes
- Obtain lab specimens and perform bedside ABG testing with associated quality control
- Manage and maintain ventilators, BIPAP, and CPAP equipment
- Perform ventilator checks every 2 hours and as needed
- Participate in patient rounds with physicians when assigned
- Document therapy, ventilator, oxygen, ECG, diagnostic testing, and charge-entry information accurately
- Maintain equipment knowledge, complete mandatory education, validate skills, and participate in clinical instruction
- Maintain a clean work area and stock supplies
- Follow infection-control, patient-safety, and hospital policies and procedures
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days — American Heart Association (AHA)
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) — National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 1 year — American Heart Association (AHA)
- Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) within 6 months — Peoria Only — Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within 1 year — American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)
- Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy or Certificate of Completion in Respiratory Therapy
- Work experience in respiratory therapy
- Maintain current license and credentials
Demonstrates expertise in respiratory therapy, including ventilator management, ECG interpretation, and patient education. Holds essential certifications and maintains compliance with safety and infection control standards.
