Job Summary

Perform mechanical maintenance on equipment and facilities of a large-scale corn milling plant, with a heavy emphasis on Maintenance Reliability. May be required to work at facilities in Texas.

Essential Job Functions
  • Install heat trace on piping, pumps, and other industrial equipment.
  • Install different types of insulation on pipes, tanks, and other industrial equipment.
  • Fabricate jacketing from aluminum or PVC to cover insulation to protect from weather and wet areas.
  • Measure and fabricate removable blankets for flanges, valves, pumps, and other industrial equipment.
  • Participate in waste and cost saving programs, providing recommendations for improvement in related procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with plant operators to anticipate maintenance requirements or repair projects.
  • Provide work direction to less experienced team members as required.
  • Perform duties in a safe manner, utilizing all approved safety equipment, and successfully complete all safety certification requirements.
  • Support and comply with all food safety, quality, and legality requirements.
  • May perform reasonably similar or related duties as assigned.
Minimum

Job Requirements
  • Good knowledge of math.
  • Strong safety values.
  • Basic knowledge of machine mechanical systems acquired through training or experience.
  • Ability to use millwright hand tools and power tools.
  • Possesses a thorough knowledge of blueprints, equipment specifications and related manuals.
  • Basic welding skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Flexibility in accepting change.
  • Communication (spoken and written) and teamwork skills.
  • Reliability in reporting to work and willingness to work overtime as required.
  • Willingness to participate in training to continue developing skills.
  • Able to understand and comply with plant GMP and personnel practice requirements.
  • Able to work in all types of weather conditions.
  • Able to work on hot equipment.
  • Ability to satisfactorily complete a maintenance aptitude and hands-on test.
Physical/Mental Requirements

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.

The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, personal flotation devices (PFDs), or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location where the work is being done.

In addition, employees in this position must also be capable of:

  • Walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters.
  • Standing, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, squatting, climbing, crawling, or sitting for long periods of time.
  • Performing repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands, and back in performance of work.
  • Climbing stairs, and/or vertical ladders of varying heights.
  • Working in confined work areas and/or elevated heights.
  • Lifting objects of minimum 10 lbs, with maximum single-person lift limit of 50 lbs, with frequent lifting and carrying.
  • Adapting to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration.
  • Visually inspecting equipment and verifying information, often in small print.
  • Driving and/or operating heavy machinery safely and being alert and aware of surroundings at all times.
  • Applying sideways, upward, or downward pressure to tighten and loosen hardware.
Education / Training
  • High school diploma or equivalent with strong fundamental skills (math, reading, and writing). Associate’s degree preferred.
Experience
  • 2+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of corn milling operations is a strong plus.
