Job Overview
Seeking an experienced Med Surg / Neuro Registered Nurse for a 13-week travel assignment in a Level I Trauma, acute care teaching hospital. This is a 54-bed Neuro Medical Surgical unit caring for complex neurological and medical patients.
This position requires prior neuro unit experience, trauma exposure, and travel experience.
Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care to adult neuro-medical surgical patients
- Manage patient ratios of:
- Days: 1:4–5
- Nights: 1:5–6
- Care for patients with diagnoses including:
- Stroke
- Spine surgery
- Seizures
- Brain tumors
- Head injuries
- Neuroscience-related conditions
- Occasional medical overflow
- Titrate heparin drips based on PTT (required experience)
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including 24/7 charge nurse and house supervisor
- Float in rotation with core staff as needed
- Maintain compliance with hospital safety and medication protocols
- Utilize EPIC for documentation
- Active Illinois RN license (or proof of application in process)
- BLS (AHA)
- NIHSS
- Medical Surgical RN experience
- Prior experience on a dedicated Neuro unit
- Level I Trauma experience required
- Previous travel experience required (no first-time travelers)
- Heparin drip experience required
- Ability to pass drug screening (drug-free campus policy)
- Shift: 3x12 Hour Days (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
- Every other weekend required
- Every other holiday required
- No call requirement
- Floating required per unit rotation policy
- 2 days orientation + 1 patient care day with preceptor
- 12 hours non-billable orientation
- EPIC charting
- Telemetry monitored house-wide (nurses do not read strips)
- Phillips monitors
- No scrub color requirement
- Tattoos must be covered; only ear piercings allowed
Must have prior travel experience and dedicated Neuro unit experience. Level I Trauma background required. Heparin drip titration experience required. Active IL license or proof of application required mission requires last four digits of SSN, middle initial, and requested time off. Local rate applies within 50 miles.
