Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute position requiring Level 1 trauma and heparin titration experience at a hospital in Illinois.
Responsibilities- Work in a 54-bed Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit within a hospital setting
- Patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and medical overflow cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 days and 1:5-6 nights
- Required to titrate heparin drips based on PTT
- Uses Epic EMR and Phillips telemetry monitors
- Scheduled for 12-hour shifts with every other weekend and holiday required
- Floating in rotation with staff primarily to general Med-Surg floors, with skills-based assignment if floated outside the unit
- No call or standby requirement
- Primary duties include caring for neuro patients and managing titratable drips
- Orientation includes 2 days with computer and unit-specific training plus 12 hours orientation total
- Charge nurse and house supervisor are present 24/7; charge nurse does not take assignments unless staffing is low
- Patient care techs assist with patient ratios on all shifts
- No scrub color requirement, but tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings allowed
- COVID-19 vaccination is not required
- Local candidates accepted with a different pay rate if living within 50 miles
- Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
- Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of recent experience as an RN
- Prior hospital experience in a dedicated neuro unit required
- Must have Level 1 trauma experience
- Prior travel nursing experience required; no first-time travelers considered
- Proven ability to titrate heparin drips
- Epic EMR experience preferred
