Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Long Term Acute Care (LTAC) Med/Surg position in Illinois, requiring an active IL RN license and at least 1 year of experience.
Responsibilities- LTAC (Long Term Acute Care) Med/Surg unit in an acute care hospital setting
- 10-bed unit with a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio, supported by patient care techs at a 1:10 ratio
- Patient population includes respiratory failure, post-surgical, wound care, IV antibiotics, post-CVA, post-trauma, and cardiac patients
- Common procedures include PEG tube care/feedings, CVC/PICC/Midline management, tracheostomy care, and Heparin drip titration
- Respiratory therapy (RT) manages all respiratory equipment (vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow); RNs assist with troubleshooting
- Telemetry monitoring is handled by a monitor tech stationed in the ICU using house-wide tele packs
- EMR:
Epic - 12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM) to start; may transition to nights if census changes
- Every other weekend required, plus additional shifts to fill scheduling gaps
- Holiday rotation required
- No current on-call or standby requirement, though this is subject to change
- Float requirements: qualified MS nurses may float to the ICU and Acute Rehab as needed
- 13-week contract
- Classroom orientation per facility policy, followed by 2 preceptored shifts on the unit
- A house supervisor is available 24/7; no charge nurse takes a unit assignment
- Any color scrubs permitted; only facility-approved t-shirts are allowed under scrubs
- Local candidates are welcome to apply; candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility may qualify for a local pay rate
- All licenses and certifications must be active at the time of consideration — pending credentials are not accepted
- COVID vaccination is not required for this position
- Active IL RN license required; must be active at time of consideration (pending licenses not accepted)
- Current BLS certification (AHA) required; ACLS preferred but not required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Proficiency with PEG tube care/feedings, CVC/PICC/Midline usage and care, and tracheostomy patients
- Experience titrating drips, including Heparin
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Must provide a negative drug screen for all panels; facility is a drug-free campus
