Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical-Surgical Acute Care night shift position requiring an active IL RN license and BLS certification.

• Acute care medical-surgical unit in a hospital setting with 18 beds (primarily private rooms)
• General medical patient population with a variety of diagnoses
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 4-5:1 on days and 5-6:1 on nights
• Two PCTs per shift at a 9:1 ratio when the unit is at full capacity
• RNs are required to titrate Heparin drips
• Patients may have oxygen requirements up to 6L via nasal cannula, as well as stable BiPAP/CPAP
• Telemetry patients are monitored remotely through a house-wide telemetry department; primary unit equipment is Philips
• 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a) on a 13-week contract
• Every other weekend required (Friday/Saturday nights)
• Holiday rotation required per facility policy
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Travel RNs are first to float to other units as needed
• EMR:

• Orientation consists of one 12-hour shift with a unit preceptor
• Charge RN coverage is available 24/7 and may carry a patient assignment; a house supervisor is also on-site 24/7
• Hospitalist and Intensivist are in-house 24/7
• RNs are expected to attempt IV starts and use available unit resources if unsuccessful; a dedicated inpatient phlebotomy team handles blood draws
• Respiratory therapy and pharmacy staff are on-site 24/7; all medications are prepared by pharmacy
• Any color scrubs are acceptable; staff must provide their own scrubs (no pediatric-themed scrubs)
• Travelers may collaborate with unit leadership on scheduling preferences
• Local candidates are welcome to apply; candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility may be subject to a local pay rate

• Active IL RN license required; must be active at time of consideration (pending licenses not accepted)
• Minimum 1 year of hospital Med/Surg experience
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA); must be active at time of consideration
• ACLS preferred for those interested in Charge RN responsibilities
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
• Must be able to pass a drug screening; facility is a drug-free campus
