Travel RN - Med​/Surg - Neuro

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute position requiring IL RN licensure, Level 1 trauma experience, and prior neuro travel nursing.

Job Details

• Work in a 54-bed Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit within an acute care setting,

• Patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and neuroscience cases with occasional medical overflow,

• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights,

• Shift is 12 hours, with every other weekend and holiday coverage required,

• Floating occurs in rotation with unit staff, taking a full team when floated to general med-surg units,

• Epic is used for EMR charting;
Epic experience is required,

• House-wide telemetry with Phillips monitors; nurses are not required to read their own strips,

• Charge nurse and house supervisor onsite 24/7; charge nurse does not take a patient assignment unless ratios are exceeded,

• Unit-specific orientation includes 2 days with an educator and preceptor,

Job Requirements

• Active IL RN license required at the time of consideration,

• Minimum of 1 year of recent neuro nursing experience in a dedicated neuro unit,

• Previous travel nursing experience is mandatory; first-time travelers will not be considered,

• Level 1 trauma experience required,

• Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required,

• Experience with heparin titration based on PTT is necessary,

• Epic EMR experience required,

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include titrating heparin drips and providing comprehensive care to neurological patients,

• Support staff includes nurse aides and patient care techs on all shifts,

• No specific scrub color required, but tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings are permitted on duty,

• No call or standby requirements for this assignment,

• Local candidates are accepted with local pay rates applied within a 50-mile permanent address,

• COVID-19 vaccination is not required,

• Holiday assignments occur every other holiday,

• Floating outside of the general unit will be supported by a nurse from the receiving unit,
