Job Description
The Registered Nurse - ASC OR/ARD is responsible for professional nursing care of the surgical or endoscopic patient and to achieve total patient centered care through use of the nursing process.
Job RelationshipsReports to the Nurse Manager-Operative Services.
Principal Responsibilities- Cross‑trained to work other areas in the facility utilizing relevant nursing skills and techniques to meet patients' needs and provide quality care.
- Complete annual competencies for specific working areas within the designated month.
- ADMISSION:
Greet patient, instruct in changing into appropriate attire, complete pre‑operative assessment, document on chart forms, administer pre‑op orders (medications, IV’s), provide pre‑operative teaching, consult with other members of the healthcare team regarding patient care. - POST‑ANESTHESIA CARE NURSE:
Assess and monitor the patient during Phase I Recovery, complete applicable records, administer medications as ordered, ready and restock cart supplies as needed, transfer patient to Phase II Recovery when recovered from anesthesia per protocol. - DISCHARGE:
Assess and monitor the patient during Phase II Recovery, administer medications, complete chart forms, assist patient in preparing for discharge, give home instructions, discharge patient per surgeon’s orders to responsible person following policy and procedure guidelines. - Maintain the facility in a neat and orderly manner at all times.
- Restock supplies as indicated daily.
- Check crash cart, defibrillator and medications daily; ensure all equipment is present and in working order.
- Complete post‑op phone calls as needed.
- Comply with Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.
- Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments required per policy.
- Provide excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic’s Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Three to five (3‑5) years of comparable nursing experience preferred.
- Licensure as an RN in the State of Illinois.
- PALS certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within six months of employment.
- ACLS certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within six months of employment.
- CPR certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire.

- Ability to control emotions and maintain composure under stress, using tact and good judgment.
- Ability to adjust to various personalities and situations.
- Maintain professional behavior.
- Possess manual dexterity to handle equipment and appliances.
- Capable of stooping, bending and lifting.
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods.
- Appearance well‑groomed.
- Conditions include exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, contagious diseases and potentially hazardous materials.
- Occasional heavy lifting required.
