$43.69 - $67.72. The hourly pay rate is determined by a candidate’s expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Overview

The RN Clinical Nurse Practice Specialist (CNPS) is an expert clinician with advanced education and training. She is responsible for applying expert knowledge, advanced assessment skills, and experience to a specific patient population across the system. The CNPS serves as an educator, consultant, and clinical expert, ensuring the use of evidence-based practices to achieve optimal, cost-effective, patient-focused outcomes across Patient Care, Nursing and Nursing, and Organization and Systems.

The CNPS interacts with nursing staff to foster an organizational culture of inquiry, mentoring nurses to implement practices based on the latest evidence.

Responsibilities
  • Provides clinical nursing expertise in the specialty area and demonstrates advanced nursing skills.
  • Assesses and recommends education needs for role development through direct care observation and feedback from staff, preceptors, and leadership.
  • Provides staff support and guidance in the development and/or modification of a patient’s plan of nursing care.
  • Identifies professional practice needs of unit staff by systematically collecting and analyzing data to evaluate issues, trends, and outcomes.
  • Enhances process improvement by identifying opportunities, leading quality initiatives, and implementing change.
  • Serves as a source of information on the latest evidence-based, cost-effective, safe clinical practices and regulatory standards.
  • Evaluates new evidence and research findings for potential application to clinical practice.
  • Identifies standards of practice using evidence-based information to achieve nurse-sensitive outcomes.
  • Evaluates outcomes of nursing practice changes.
  • Leads the integration, management, and evaluation of technology/products to promote safety, quality, and optimal health outcomes.
  • Partners in developing evidence-based policies, procedures, and protocols; creating and implementing plans to ensure sustainable change at the unit level.
  • Participates in Shared Decision-Making Councils.
  • Consults with Nursing Leadership, Clinical Nurse Educators, and other system teams to establish annual competencies and skill days and other educational needs.
  • Partners with peers to create and implement just-in-time education, presentations, and practical skills in clinical or simulation settings using evidence-based practice and adult learning theory.
  • Develops and provides nursing education in various venues and methods.
  • Responds to the learning needs of the community, employing educational strategies to promote, maintain, and improve health and prevent illness and injury.
  • Shares responsibility for developing, implementing, and evaluating learning and development programs and teaching methodologies to improve organizational outcomes.
  • Participates in the design and evaluation of Transition to Practice programs for nurses at all levels.
  • Collaborates with academic nursing partners to support and promote integration of nursing students into the practice environment.
  • Serves as an influential leader in interprofessional learning, professional growth, and practice change throughout the organization, using effective strategies to encourage adoption of evidence-based practices and innovations.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and emotional intelligence in decision making, supporting a culture of innovation and clinical excellence.
  • Mentors and coaches clinical nurse/staff nurse educators to advance in nursing education.
  • Fosters a healthy work environment and builds effective teams via coaching and advanced communication skills.
  • Identifies and participates in evidence-based and nursing research projects.
