American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU position requiring at least 2 years of CVICU experience and an active IL RN license.
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of solid CVICU experience required
- Basic Life Support (BLS - AHA) certification required
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred
- CCRN certification a plus
- Must be proficient in all cardiovascular ICU components with exception of immediate post-op, VAD, and transplant care
- Ability to interpret cardiac strips independently required
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, and time management skills required
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment
- Must be able to work independently with minimal facility-specific training
Responsibilities
- Work in a Level 1 trauma acute care hospital setting within the Adult Cardiac Intensive Care Unit
- 20-bed unit, all private and monitored rooms
- Patient ratios range from 1:1 to 2:1 depending on acuity
- Patient population includes post open heart surgical patients (CABG, valves, dissections, AAA), vascular procedures, carotids, STEMI, unstable angina, cardiogenic shock, cardiomyopathy, severe heart failure, and TAVR patients
- Care for ventilated patients and occasional overflow patients from other ICUs
- Utilizes specialty intervention equipment including IABPs, Impellas, Swan Ganz catheters, ECMO, external pacemakers, and CRRT
- Manages various lines including PICC, midlines, CVC, Swans, and arterial lines (radial and femoral)
- Responsible for titrating multiple drips including dopamine, dobutamine, levophed, epi, neo, vasopressin, cleviprex, propofol, fentanyl, versed, insulin, heparin, and esmolol
- Utilizes Philips cardiac monitoring and is expected to read and interpret strips independently
- Uses EPIC EMR system
- 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a)
- Every other weekend required (Friday, Saturday for night shift)
- Every other holiday coverage required
- Floating required to all levels of care with full patient assignment expected
- Charge nurses and house supervisors are available 24/7
- Respiratory therapists available 24/7 for ventilator, CPAP, BPAP, and high flow support
- Provide direct nursing care to complex cardiovascular ICU patients including those requiring multiple simultaneous interventions such as swans, CVC, art lines, temporary pacemakers, and ventilator support
- EP patients are frequently admitted to this unit
- Unit will soon begin caring for post-VAD placement and post-heart transplant patients
- No particular scrub color required, but attire must be professional and appropriate; scrubs are not provided by facility
- Local candidates are welcome to apply
- Local rate available for clinicians residing within 50 miles of the facility
- COVID vaccination is not required for this facility
