American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week Nights contract requiring at least 1 year of post-op surgical experience and an active IL RN license.
Details- Work in a 63-bed Surgical Acute unit within an acute care hospital setting
- Patient population includes post-op surgical, trauma, and overflow medical patients requiring dressing changes, wound care, IV therapy, pain management, drains, NGs, central lines, and TPN
- Nurse-to-patient ratios of 4-5:1 on days and 5-6:1 on nights, which may increase to 1:6 days and 1:7 nights if needed
- 12-hour Night shifts from
- EPIC EMR used for charting
- RNs are not required to titrate drips, with Heparin being the only common titratable drip
- Some patients are on telemetry monitored via Phillips monitors by a central station, RNs are not required to read strips
- Support staff includes PCTs at a ratio of 7-10 patients per PCT on days and 10-15 on nights, assisting with vitals, accu checks, ADLs, and ambulation
- Pre-assigned Charge RNs on each shift who do not take a patient assignment, along with 24/7 House Supervisor coverage
- Respiratory therapy manages nebulizers while RNs manage inhalers and can place patients on CPAP
- No ventilator management required, though CPAP and high flow are used on the unit
- Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday)
- Rotating holiday coverage required every other holiday
- No call or standby requirements
- Travelers float first to units with a similar level of experience
- Block scheduling may be considered if approved at time of contract, self-scheduling is not available
- Active IL RN license required
- Current BLS (AHA) certification required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- BSN not required for this position
- Post-op surgical care experience and strong critical thinking skills required
- Must be a team player with good bedside manner and willingness to ask for help when needed
- Must pass a negative drug screen for all panels as OSF is a Drug-Free Campus
- Provide post-operative surgical nursing care including wound care, IV therapy, pain management, and management of drains, NGs, central lines, and TPN
- Unit-specific orientation includes 2 shifts with a preceptor plus one 12-hour shift focused on EPIC and professional orientation with a unit educator
- Any scrub color is permitted
- Local rate applies to clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility with no radius restriction on eligibility
- COVID vaccination is not required for this facility
