American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute position requiring Level 1 trauma experience and prior travel nursing experience.
Details- for a Med-Surg unit specializing in Neuro Acute care
- 54-bed unit with 2 semi-private rooms
- Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
- Cares for stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and other neuroscience patients, with some medical overflow
- Uses EPIC EMR
- 12-hour night shifts
- Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday)
- Every other holiday required
- Float rotation with rest of staff to general unit floor as full team; floating outside general unit limited to competent skills with a trained nurse
- No call or standby requirements
- RNs required to titrate drips, including heparin gtt based on PTT
- House-wide telemetry monitoring using Phillips monitors; RNs not required to read own strips
- Charge nurse and house supervisor on-site 24/7
- Active IL RN license required
- BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Level 1 trauma experience required
- Prior experience on a dedicated neuro unit required
- Heparin drip titration experience required
- Previous travel nursing experience required; no first-time travelers considered
- Negative drug screen required for all panels
- Provide direct nursing care to neuroscience patients including stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, and head injury cases
- Titrate medication drips such as heparin based on lab values
- Collaborate with charge nurse and house supervisor available on every shift
- Patient care techs support the unit with ratios of 1:9-10 on days/evenings and 1:10-12 on nights
- High flow oxygen equipment used occasionally for stable COVID patients
- No scrub color requirement, but tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings permitted while on duty
- Unit-specific orientation includes 2 days with an educator followed by a shift with a preceptor
- No radius rule for eligibility; local rate applies to candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
- COVID vaccination not required for consideration
