American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute position requiring Level 1 trauma experience and prior travel nursing experience.

• for a Med-Surg unit specializing in Neuro Acute care
• 54-bed unit with 2 semi-private rooms
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
• Cares for stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and other neuroscience patients, with some medical overflow
• Uses EPIC EMR
• 12-hour night shifts
• Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday)
• Every other holiday required
• Float rotation with rest of staff to general unit floor as full team; floating outside general unit limited to competent skills with a trained nurse
• No call or standby requirements
• RNs required to titrate drips, including heparin gtt based on PTT
• House-wide telemetry monitoring using Phillips monitors; RNs not required to read own strips
• Charge nurse and house supervisor on-site 24/7

• Active IL RN license required
• BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Level 1 trauma experience required
• Prior experience on a dedicated neuro unit required
• Heparin drip titration experience required
• Previous travel nursing experience required; no first-time travelers considered
• Negative drug screen required for all panels

• Provide direct nursing care to neuroscience patients including stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, and head injury cases
• Titrate medication drips such as heparin based on lab values
• Collaborate with charge nurse and house supervisor available on every shift
• Patient care techs support the unit with ratios of 1:9-10 on days/evenings and 1:10-12 on nights
• High flow oxygen equipment used occasionally for stable COVID patients
• No scrub color requirement, but tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings permitted while on duty
• Unit-specific orientation includes 2 days with an educator followed by a shift with a preceptor
• No radius rule for eligibility; local rate applies to candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
• COVID vaccination not required for consideration
