American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week acute surgical unit assignment requiring at least 1 year of post-op nursing experience and an active IL RN license.
Details- Surgical Acute unit within an acute care hospital setting, 63 beds (49 private, 9 observation)
- Nurse-to-patient ratios of 4-5:1 on days and 5-6:1 on nights, up to 1:6 days/1:7 nights when needed
- Patient population includes post-op surgical, trauma, and overflow medical patients requiring dressing changes, wound care, IV therapy, pain management, drains, NGs, central lines, and TPN
- Uses EPIC EMR
- 12-hour day shifts, , with possible block scheduling approved at contract start
- Every other weekend required (Saturday/Sunday)
- Rotates every other holiday
- No call or standby requirement
- Travelers float first to units with similar experience level; ICU RNs floating to general units take a 3-patient team
- PCT support available at 7-10 patient ratio on days and 10-15 on nights, assisting with vitals, accu checks, ADLs, turning, and ambulation
- Charge RNs pre-assigned each shift without patient assignments; house supervisor available 24/7
- Telemetry patients monitored via Phillips monitors with central station monitor techs; bedside RNs do not read strips
- No ventilator management required; CPAP and high-flow oxygen used, with RNs managing inhalers and CPAP placement
- Active IL RN license required (or in-process application accepted)
- BLS certification (AHA) required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Post-op surgical nursing experience and strong critical thinking skills required
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
- Must be able to pass a negative drug screen for all panels
- Provide post-operative and general surgical nursing care including wound care, IV therapy, pain management, and monitoring of drains, NGs, central lines, and TPN
- Team-oriented environment with strong bedside manner and willingness to ask for help when needed
- Unit-specific orientation includes 2 precepted shifts plus one 12-hour shift for EPIC training and professional orientation with unit educator
- Scrub color is not restricted
- Local candidates within 50 miles are eligible for a reduced local bill rate
- No radius restriction for eligibility to work the assignment
- Facility operates as a Drug-Free Campus
- COVID vaccination not required for this facility
