Description:
The Neuro ICU is a critical care unit that provides specialized care for patients with neurological conditions.
The unit has 18 beds with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2.Registered nurses are required to titrate various medications as ordered by physicians.
Common patient diagnoses include strokes, ventricles, and post-craniectomy care.
Registered nurses will be responsible for reading and interpreting telemetry strips.
Equipment used includes ventilators and various respiratory therapies such as CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen.
There are nurse aids or patient care technicians present, with a ratio of 1 tech to 9 patients.
Each shift may have a charge nurse who may take an assignment depending on staffing needs.
Floats are expected to the general and intermediate care units as needed.
Weekend shifts and rotating holiday shifts are part of the scheduling requirements.
