American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg-Neuro RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring dedicated neuro unit and level 1 trauma experience.

• Acute care Neuro Med-Surg unit with 54 beds (2 semi-private)
• Patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and other neuroscience cases with some medical overflow
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
• Nurse aides/patient care techs support the unit at ratios of 1:9-10 days/evenings and 1:10-12 nights
• Charge nurse and house supervisor coverage 24/7, with charge nurse only taking an assignment if short-staffed
• House-wide telemetry monitoring using Philips monitors, so RNs are not required to read their own strips
• High flow oxygen used occasionally for stable COVID patients
• EPIC EMR used for charting
• 12-hour night shifts on a 36-hour per week schedule
• Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday, both shifts) and every other holiday required
• Float rotation required with unit staff; general floor floats take a full team, and any float outside the general unit is limited to competent skills alongside a trained nurse
• No call or standby requirements

• Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
• BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Level 1 trauma center experience required
• Prior experience working on a dedicated neuro unit required
• Previous travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
• Heparin drip titration experience required, based on PTT monitoring
• Must be comfortable titrating drips as part of patient care
• Negative drug screen required for all panels

• Provide direct patient care on a high-acuity Neuro Med-Surg unit, including titrating drips and monitoring neuro status
• 2-day unit orientation includes computer and unit-specific training with an educator, plus a shift caring for patients alongside a preceptor
• No scrub color requirement, but tattoos must be covered while on duty and only ear piercings are permitted
• Local candidates accepted with no radius rule for standard eligibility, though a reduced local rate applies within 50 miles of the facility
• COVID vaccination is not required for this facility
