American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg unit requiring Level 1 trauma experience and prior travel assignment history.
Details- Acute care setting on a 54-bed Neuro Med-Surg unit (2 semi-private rooms)
- Patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and general neuroscience cases with some medical overflow
- Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
- Nurse aide/PCT support present with ratios of 1:9-10 on days and evenings and 1:10-12 on nights
- Charge nurse and house supervisor coverage on every shift, with charge nurses taking assignments only when short-staffed
- 12-hour day shift schedule
- Required to work every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday, both shifts) and every other holiday
- No call or standby requirement
- Floating required within the general unit rotation, with out-of-unit floats limited to competent skills and paired with a trained nurse
- House-wide telemetry monitoring using Philips monitors eliminates need for nurses to read their own strips
- RNs required to titrate drips, including heparin gtt based on PTT
- High flow oxygen support used occasionally for stable COVID patients
- EPIC EMR used for charting
- Active IL RN license required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- BLS certification (AHA) required
- NIHSS certification required
- Level 1 trauma experience required
- Prior experience working on a dedicated neuro unit required
- Heparin drip titration experience required
- Previous travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
- BSN not required for this position
- Provide direct patient care for a complex neuroscience population including stroke, spine, seizure, and brain tumor patients
- Unit orientation consists of 2 days covering computer systems and unit specifics with an educator, plus 1 day of patient care with a preceptor
- No scrub color requirement, but tattoos must be covered while on duty and only ear piercings are permitted
- Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are eligible for a reduced local rate
- Candidates who have not previously worked permanently for this health system are eligible to apply
