American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg night shift position requiring prior travel and Level 1 trauma unit experience.
Details- Acute care Neuro Med-Surg unit within a 54-bed department (some semi-private rooms)
- Patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, general neuroscience, and some medical overflow cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4-5 days, 1:5-6 nights
- 12-hour night shifts
- Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday, both shifts) and every other holiday required
- No call or standby requirement
- Floats within the general unit rotation; if floated outside the general unit, only performs skills within competency alongside a trained nurse
- Uses EPIC EMR
- House-wide telemetry with Phillips monitors; nurses are not required to read their own strips
- RNs required to titrate drips, including heparin gtt based on PTT
- High flow oxygen used occasionally for stable COVID patients
- Charge nurse and house supervisor coverage 24/7; charge nurse only takes an assignment if unit is short-staffed
- Patient care techs/aides present with ratios of 1:9-10 days/evenings and 1:10-12 nights
- Active IL RN license required
- BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Prior dedicated neuro unit experience required
- Level 1 trauma center experience required
- Heparin drip titration experience required
- Previous travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
- Negative drug screen required for all panels (OSF is a Drug-Free Campus)
- Provide direct patient care on a dedicated Neuro Med-Surg unit, including drip titration and neuro-focused interventions
- Unit-specific orientation includes 2 days with an educator (computer systems, unit specifics) followed by 1 day with a preceptor caring for patients
- No specific scrub color required, but tattoos must be covered while on duty and only ear piercings are permitted
- COVID vaccination is not required for consideration
- Local rate applies to clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility; no radius restriction on eligibility
