American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position requiring active IL licensure and prior critical care experience with ventriculostomy and stroke management skills.
Details- Acute care setting in an 18-bed Neuro (Science) ICU
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2
- Common diagnoses include ventriculostomies, strokes with/without TPA, and craniotomies
- RNs titrate a wide variety of drips per physician orders
- Charge nurse and 24/7 house supervisor present on each shift
- Nurse aides/patient care techs staffed at 9:1 ratio
- Tele/monitor techs staffed every shift using Phillips monitors; RNs read and interpret their own strips
- RNs manage RT equipment including vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow beyond troubleshooting
- 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend required
- Rotating holiday coverage required every other holiday
- No call or standby requirement
- Travelers float first to any unit including intermediate (1:3 ratio) and general floor (1:4 ratio) units
- EPIC EMR used
- 13-week assignment
- Active IL RN license required
- BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA) required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- NIH Stroke Scale certification required
- Experience with ventriculostomy, ventilators, arterial lines, and central lines required
- Experience with tPA administration and acute stroke management required
- Post-craniectomy patient care experience required
- BSN not required
- Provide critical care nursing to neuro ICU patients including stroke, craniotomy, and ventriculostomy cases
- 20 hours of unit-specific orientation (one 8-hour shift and one 12-hour shift)
- 12 hours of general orientation (non-billable)
- Local rate applies to clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
- No radius rule restricting eligibility
- COVID vaccination not required
- Negative drug screen required for all panels
- Call-off policy allows 12 hours per 13 weeks with no penalty
