American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Surgical ICU position requiring Level I trauma and ICU experience.

• 13-bed Surgical ICU in an acute care hospital setting
• Nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:2, occasionally 1:1 or 1:3
• Patient population includes post-surgical, open abdomen, multi-system trauma, and endovascular cases
• RNs required to titrate drips including pressors, sedation, paralytics, and insulin
• Charge nurse and 24/7 house supervisor available on each shift, with charge nurse taking an assignment as staffing allows
• Nurse aides/patient care techs on unit at a 1:10 ratio
• Intensivist coverage in house from approximately  with telemedicine and on-call attending support after hours
• Respiratory therapists in ICU 24/7 using vents, CPAP, and BiPAP equipment
• Monitor techs available, but RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own telemetry strips
• 12-hour day shifts, 7:00am-7:30pm
• Weekend requirement of 6 shifts within a 6-week period
• Holiday coverage required every other holiday
• No call or standby requirement
• Floating required, with travelers taking a full team assignment if floated to a lower level of care (3 patients on stepdown, 5-6 patients in general medicine)
• Uses EPIC EMR

• Active IL RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certification (AHA)
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Level I trauma center and ICU experience required
• EPIC EMR experience beneficial

• Care for critically ill post-surgical and multi-system trauma patients in a Level I trauma ICU environment
• Unit-specific orientation includes 8 hours of EPIC and systems training, 8 hours with an educator, 4 hours of shadowing, and 12 hours with a preceptor on the unit
• No specific scrub color or dress code requirements
• Negative drug screen required for all panels as part of facility's drug-free campus policy
• COVID vaccination not required
• Local candidates accepted, with reduced local rate applying to clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
