American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit, requiring Level 1 trauma experience and prior travel nursing experience.
Details- Acute care setting in a 54-bed Neuro Med-Surg unit with semi-private rooms
- Patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and other neuroscience cases, with some medical overflow
- Nurse to patient ratios of 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
- Charge nurse and house supervisor available 24/7, with charge nurse not typically taking an assignment
- Nurse aides/patient care techs present with ratios of 1:9-10 on days and evenings, 1:10-12 on nights
- House-wide telemetry monitoring using Phillips monitors, so RNs are not required to read their own strips
- RNs required to titrate drips, including heparin based on PTT
- High flow oxygen used rarely for stable COVID patients
- 12-hour day shifts
- Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) and every other holiday required
- No call or standby requirement
- Floating required in rotation with staff, typically to general unit floor
- Uses EPIC EMR
- Active IL RN license required
- BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Level 1 trauma experience required
- Prior dedicated neuro unit experience required
- Previous travel nursing experience required (no first-time travelers)
- Heparin drip titration experience required
- EPIC EMR experience required
- Negative drug screen required for all panels
- Provide direct patient care for a variety of neuroscience diagnoses with some medical overflow
- 2-day unit-specific orientation including computer and unit orientation with an educator, plus 1 day with a preceptor caring for patients
- No scrub color requirement, but tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings are permitted while on duty
- Local candidates considered, with local rate applying to clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
- No radius restriction for general eligibility
- COVID vaccination not required for this facility
- First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
