Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department position requiring ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications and an active IL RN license.

Details
  • Work in a 65-bed, all-private Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department with 2 trauma bays
  • Patient population spans all ages and acuities, from minor complaints to critically ill, cardiac arrest, stroke, and Level 1/2 trauma patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios range from 1:3 to 1:5 depending on acuity
  • Travelers may care for trauma patients once stabilized and transferred from the trauma bay but will not serve as primary nurse in the bay itself
  • Supported by ED techs (1:9 ratio), respiratory therapists, monitor techs, radiology/transport staff, 2 charge nurses, and a 24/7 house supervisor
  • Uses Phillips cardiac monitors with orientation provided to travelers
  • EPIC EMR used
  • Evening shift schedule (3P-3A), 12-hour shifts
  • Scheduled by the facility (no self-scheduling), though time off requests can be included in contract
  • Every other weekend rotation required, with weekend days varying by shift
  • Every other holiday or based on department needs, negotiable based on contract
  • No on-call or standby requirements
  • Rare floating possible to other units in a 'help all' capacity only
Requirements
  • Active IL RN license required
  • BLS, ACLS, and ENPC or PALS certifications required
  • TNCC or TNS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience preferred
  • At least 1 prior travel assignment preferred
  • SANE RN experience preferred
  • Experience at a teaching hospital with resident staff preferred
  • Must be proficient in titrating vasopressor, cardiac, and antihypertensive drips
  • Ability to interpret and act on cardiac rhythms, including recognition of life-threatening arrhythmias
  • Must produce a negative drug screen for all panels as OSF is a Drug-Free Campus
Additional Information
  • Provide direct patient care across a wide variety of emergency presentations, from newborns to the elderly
  • Draw labs as part of routine nursing duties, with phlebotomy assisting for boarder patients at times
  • Troubleshoot respiratory equipment such as vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow devices with support from respiratory therapists
  • No specific scrub color required, though tasteful solid-colored shirts under scrubs are expected
  • Local candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles are eligible for a local rate
  • Requested time off must be submitted for consideration and will be reviewed for approval based on department needs
  • First-time travelers may be considered, though prior travel experience is preferred
