American Traveler is hiring an experienced Medical ICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring ACLS, BLS, and proficiency with ventilated and vasopressor-dependent patients.
Details- Acute care MICU setting with 20 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2
- Night shift, 12-hour shifts from 7:00pm-7:30am
- EPIC EMR used for charting
- Every other weekend required (Friday/Saturday nights)
- No on-call or standby requirements
- Floating required, with travelers floating first; may take 3 patients on stepdown or 4 on gen med units
- Charge RN and 24/7 house supervisor support available
- 1 PCT to 10 patient ratio for nursing support
- Intensivist in-house from with telemedicine and on-call attending support afterward
- Telemetry monitored by tele tech using Phillips monitors, with RNs responsible for reading and interpreting strips
- Active IL RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA)
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Proficient in EKG strip interpretation
- Experience with arterial lines and central lines required
- Proficient in care of ventilated patients
- Advanced knowledge in titrating vasopressors and cardioactive medications required
- Experience with RT equipment including vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow
- Common diagnoses include sepsis, ARDS, pneumonia, AKI, ETOH withdrawal, and overdose
- RNs responsible for titrating a wide variety of vasoactive and cardioactive medications per ordered parameters
- Unit-specific orientation includes 8 hours of EPIC training, 8 hours with an educator, 4 hours of shadowing, and a full 12-hour shift with a preceptor
- Scrubs not provided; no specific color requirements, though sweatshirts are not permitted
- Holiday coverage requirements vary based on staffing needs
