American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit requiring Level 1 trauma experience and prior dedicated neuro unit background.
Details- Acute care Neuro Med-Surg unit with 54 beds (2 semi-private)
- Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
- Patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and general neuroscience cases, with some medical overflow
- Nurses are required to titrate drips, including heparin based on PTT
- High flow oxygen used rarely for stable COVID patients
- House-wide telemetry monitoring using Phillips monitors; nurses are not required to read their own strips
- Charge nurse and house supervisor coverage 24/7
- Patient care techs on shift with ratios of 1:9-10 days/evenings and 1:10-12 nights
- 12-hour night shifts
- Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) and every other holiday required
- No call or standby requirements
- Floating required in rotation with staff; general unit travelers float to general unit floor
- EPIC EMR used
- Active IL RN license required
- BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Level 1 trauma experience required
- Prior experience on a dedicated neuro unit required
- Previous travel nursing experience required; no first-time travelers
- Heparin drip titration experience required
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
- Provide direct patient care for neuroscience and medical overflow patients on a busy Med-Surg Neuro unit
- 2-day unit orientation including computer systems and unit-specific training with an educator, plus 1 day with a preceptor
- No scrub color requirement; tattoos must be covered while on duty and only ear piercings are permitted
- Facility is a Drug-Free Campus requiring a negative drug screen across all panels
- COVID vaccination is not required for consideration
