American Traveler is hiring a Surgical ICU RN for a 13-week travel assignment requiring Level I trauma and ICU experience, ACLS/BLS certification, and an active IL RN license.

• Acute care Surgical ICU with 13 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:2, with occasional 1:1 or 1:3
• Common diagnoses include post-surgical, open abdomens, multi-system trauma, and endovascular cases
• RNs responsible for titrating drips including pressors, sedation, paralytics, and insulin
• Charge nurse and 24/7 house supervisor support on each shift
• Nurse aides/patient care techs on unit at 1:10 ratio
• Intensivist in house approximately  with telemedicine intensivist support and on-call attending overnight
• Respiratory therapy in ICU 24/7 using vents, CPAP, and BiPAP
• Monitor techs on unit, though RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own telemetry strips
• Uses EPIC EMR
• 12-hour day shifts, 7:00-7:30
• Weekend requirement of 6 shifts in a 6-week period
• Holiday coverage required every other holiday
• No call or standby requirement
• Floating required; if floated to a lower level of care, traveler takes a full team of 3 patients on Stepdown or 5-6 patients in general medicine

• Active IL RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 1 year of nursing experience required
• Level I trauma center and ICU experience required
• BSN not required
• EPIC EMR experience preferred

• Unit-specific orientation includes 8 hours of EPIC and systems training, 8 hours with an educator, 4 hours of shadowing, and 12 hours with a preceptor on the unit
• No specific scrub color or dress code required
• COVID vaccination not required
• Local candidates accepted; candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles are eligible for a local rate
